This paper proposes an overvoltage mitigation via variable switching frequency discontinuous PWM in SiC inverter systems. Variable switching frequency secures zero-vector voltage in each DPWM interval to suppress the double pulsing effect. The variable switching frequency is classified into modulation for double pulsing suppression and compensation for switching. The variable switching frequency is formulated with consideration of the voltage reference in DPWM. A flowchart illustrating the proposed algorithm is presented. The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulations.
