This paper proposes an overvoltage mitigation method with minimum-loss discontinuous PWM (MLDPWM) in silicon carbide (SiC) inverter systems. In industrial SiC inverter systems, long transmission lines between the inverter and the load cause voltage reflections, which generate high overvoltage known as Double pulsing effect (DPE). The Double pulsing effect causes insulation breakdown of the windings, thereby degrading the overall system performance. The proposed method mitigates overvoltage by modifying the reference voltage in the MLDPWM-based inverter system, which is widely used in industry to reduce switching losses. Reference voltage modulation adjusts the duty cycle to achieve overvoltage mitigation in SiC inverter systems. A flowchart illustrates the proposed control scheme, showing the steps for duty cycle adjustment through reference voltage modulation. The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulations.
