This paper proposes a discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM) method for reducing switching losses in single inverter dual parallel (SIDP) permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. The proposed method reduces switching losses by avoiding switching in the interval where the magnitude of the current flowing through the inverter is at its maximum. The phase angle of the current flowing through the inverter is calculated mathematically to identify the interval of maximum magnitude. The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulations.
