This paper proposes copper loss minimization using predictive current selection in single-inverter dual-parallel (SIDP) interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drives. The proposed method predicts the copper losses of the two motors in the next control period for three candidate d-axis current references (decrease, hold, and increase) and selects the one that minimizes the predicted losses while maintaining the desired output torque and ensuring speed synchronization between the two motors. Unlike existing predictive schemes using a fixed current step, the proposed method adaptively adjusts the candidate interval to improve tracking accuracy and suspends redundant candidate comparisons after convergence. In addition, the proposed method is extended to IPMSM drives by modifying the prediction model used in the current selection process. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
