This thesis proposes a discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM) method for single inverter dual parallel (SIDP) permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives to minimize power loss of inverter. The proposed method maximizes the reduction of inverter power losses in the SIDP PMSM by applying a DPWM method based on the current phase. Since the resultant current of the two motors flows through the inverter, the clamping interval should be determined using the phase angle of the resultant current in the SIDP PMSM drive system. The phase angle of the resultant current is mathematically derived from the current relationship between the two motors and their rotor position difference. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through simulation and experimental results.
