This paper proposes advanced discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM) for reducing overvoltage based on a perturbation and observation (P&O) algorithm in motor drive systems. This paper analyzes the reflected voltage phenomenon based on transmission line theory. The proposed method adjusts the discontinuous region to mitigate the double pulsing effect. The fluctuation of the discontinuous region is analyzed based on the modulation index (MI). The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulation results.
