This thesis presents SiC module-based hardware design for reliability improvement in inverter-fed motor drive systems. SiC modules have been widely used in various motor drive applications due to their high efficiency and compact design. However, the fast switching speed of the SiC modules leads
to overvoltage by the high current slew rate within the parasitic inductance. Furthermore, the high voltage slew rate during switching induces insulation failures within motor windings. To improve the reliability of the SiC modulebased inverter-fed motor drive systems, an optimized hardware design is required. The detection and clearance of the fault states are established by the design of gate drivers with desaturation protection. Junction temperature is estimated for thermal monitoring using an RC Foster network. The installation of passive filters can be employed to reduce the dv/dt for the mitigation of electromagnetic interference. The effectiveness and validity of the process are verified through experimental results under various conditions.
