This paper proposes a duty-ratio control method for overvoltage reduction in SiC-based inverter drive systems employing discontinuous PWM. The mechanism of overvoltage in motor drive systems with long transmission line is investigated. The duty ratio required for overvoltage reduction is analyzed for each reference-voltage interval under discontinuous PWM. Output characteristics before and after applying the proposed method are compared. The validity of the proposed method and the results of the comparative analysis are verified through simulation and experiments.
