This thesis proposes a region-controlled pulse width modulation (PWM) technique based on overvoltage region in motor drive system. The reflected voltage phenomenon is analyzed based on transmission line theory in motor drive systems with long transmission lines. The proposed technique sets the discontinuous region equal to the size of the overvoltage region of 60° discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM). The magnitude of the reference voltage is adjusted to mitigate overvoltage when the overvoltage region exceeds 60°. This paper presents a comparative analysis of the discontinuous regions required for overvoltage mitigation based on the modulation index (MI), using the proposed technique. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is validated through simulation and experimental results.
