This paper presents control method for permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) of indirect matrix converter (IMC) operating in
boost mode. The IMC operating in boost mode, which is called a reverse matrix converter (RMC), is that the power-flow directions of
the input and output are switched to improve the input-output voltage transfer ratio comparing with the conventional IMC. The RMC
operates in boost mode without additional elements or circuits and it has a minimum voltage transfer ratio of 1/0.866 in a linear–
modulation region. In this paper, a structure and modulation method for the RMC are presented and the control method of the RMC
driving the PMSM is proposed. First, in case the generator having variable voltage magnitude and frequency is connected to the input
stage of the RMC, the control method for RMC driving the PMSM, which is connected to the output stage, is proposed. Here, through
the proposed control method, the PMSM of the output stage can be In this paper, the effectiveness of the proposed control methods
is verified by the simulation and experimental results. controlled to constant speed under variable generator input conditions that the
input voltage magnitude and frequency of the RMC are changed depending on the rotating speed of the generator. In addition, this
paper presents a control method using the direct power control (DPC) for the RMC driving the PMSM, which is connected to the
output stage. The proposed control
