The process control system is diversified with integration, flexibility, and scalability due to IT and the development of control
technology. There is a growing tendency to use and introduce the new control system in the form of a combination of digital
control and data communication technology in the power plant process control system. More specifically, the process control system
in the recently established power plant is composed of a multi control loop system with a process control system of the enhanced
program and an HMI connected to communication network. Therefore it is possible to use distributed and integrated control via the
HMI installed in the main control room, and it allows for monitoring, operation, and control of the generation process based on HMI.
This study first focuses on the implementation of the field process control system based on HMI used in the generation process
control and the configuration of the Programmable Automation Controller, the Communication Network, the Engineering Work
Station, and the Operator Interface System. Next, the study examines the tuning method for optimized P,I, and D control parameter
settings for the performance testing of the reservoir water level control in the power plant process by using the composed control
system. In the future, this study will be beneficial to understanding the structure, the characteristic, and the tuning of the control
loop to the power plant process control system using the latest digital control technology.
