This paper proposes sensorless operation at low-speed region of open-end winding interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (OEW-IPMSM) with single current sensor using zero-voltage vector. A conventional phase currents reconstruction method has unavoidable dead zone in low-modulation
area that restricts application of a specific control algorithm such as sensorless operation at low-speed. Since this drawback in low-modulation area,
several rotor position estimation methods have been limited to implement intactly. In this paper, through adopting zero-voltage vector sampling
method (ZVVSM), an OEW IPMSM driving method at low-speed region requiring only one current sensor is proposed. The proposed scheme has cost-effectiveness, maintainability, and no additional audible noise in spite of reducing numbers of sensors and adopting sensorless method based zero-
voltage vector. The validity of proposed low-speed sensorless operation scheme is demonstrated by simulation results.
