This paper proposes a circulating current reduction method for modular inverters using a modified five level space vector modulation. The modular
inverters have been applied for a wide range of power applications and renewable energy systems such as photovoltaic generation, battery charger of electric vehicles, and energy storage systems. The modular inverters have the advantages of the convenient design and maintenance, and adjustable
power rating by the number of modules. However, the circulating current occurs when each inverter has the different voltage reference by the
inconsistent triangular carrier waves and filter sizes. The circulating current deteriorate s the performance and reliability of parallel systems. This paper
analyzes the two parallel connected inverters as a single five level inverter for operating synchronous, proposes the circulating current reduction
method for improving the efficiency of the parallel connected inverter. The circul ating current is reduced by selection of the modified switching
sequences. The validity of the proposed control method is demonstrated by the simulation results.
