This paper proposes the controller design for stability improvement of an on-board battery charger. The on-board charger is
comprised of a power factor correction (PFC) circuit and phase shift full-bridge converter. The DC-link voltage which is regulated by
the PFC circuit has 120Hz (or 100Hz) ripple because the inductor current of PFC circuit oscillates to 120Hz for power factor
correction. This oscillation becomes a reason of the disturbance in output voltages and currents of phase shift full-bridge converter.
This ripple creates an adverse effect on the stability and life-time of battery. This paper proposes the design technique of the type
three controller for stability improvement of the on-board battery charger. A simulation has been performed on the on-board battery
charger and their results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed system.
